Dojo Etiquette and Safety

The place where Karate is practiced is called a dojo. This is more than a gym, it is a house of respect. Classes begin and end with respect as displayed in the bowing-in and bowing-out ceremonies.

As a place of respect, one should be on time, ready for class, and not interrupt the class or the instructors. This includes making sure you go to the bathroom prior to class.

Chewing gum or eating in class is not allowed. Keep fingernails and toenails trimmed. Long nails can cut other students. Keep your gi clean and presentable. This is a matter of respect for the dojo and instructors, and its' condition represents YOU!
